Selective coloring is a processing technique where most part of a colored photo is converted to black and white, but some parts are left in color. The technique is seen quite often and in some movies too. It looks gorgeous.

Selective coloring can be done quite easily in image editing tools that support layers, masks and hue control, such as Adobe Photoshop and Gimp. But if you are Photoshop ignorant, even simple image manipulation job like selective coloring can be scary. In that case, use tintii.

Tintii is a free program for Windows, Mac and Linux that allows anybody to create selectively colored photos without knowing a thing about masks or layers. Just open the image with the program, a few mouse clicks and you get a great color-select effect. Often, you don’t have to do a thing – it happens automatically. Additional post-processing controls for finer control, such as edge softening and grayscale mixing are also provided.

The standalone version of tintii is free. If you register for USD 16, you can upgrade to the Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro plug-in. But who needs a plug-in for something which is already available for Photoshop (and Paint Shop Pro)?
