DiskMax is a powerful hard disk file cleaning software that makes other file cleaning software like CCleaner look like a minnow. (Actually, CCleaner is too basic. Try nCleaner instead).
DiskMax’s file cleaning capabilities is so potent and its scanning so deep that it’s guaranteed to recover oodles of disk space even on the most well kept Windows system. That also means that it has to be used with caution. But you shouldn’t be too worried because DiskMax prompts the user for input at every important step during the cleaning process.
When you start the program you will be asked to choose between 4 cleaning methods – Quick, Standard, Detailed and Complete.
Depending on the cleaning methods you choose DiskMax will clean files from various locations including the following areas:
- Temporary folders, browser caches, browser history, cookies, multimedia caches, instant messenger caches, icon caches, Windows CD burning caches, Explorer thumbnail cache, Windows error reporting data and user registry entries.
- Windows Cache, Downloaded installations, DLL cache, Last known good, Memory dumps, Windows Logs, Old registry backups, Orphaned windows installer files
- Service packs installers, Windows updates installers, windows update roll-back files, unused legacy cursors etc
- Detailed scan includes file defragmentation too.

User prompts are presented at appropriate intervals when the scan is run for the first time and you will have to sit through the entire operation, which gets a bit weary. A 'Remember my answer' check box at each prompt however, ensures that subsequent run of the program is fully automated.
Because DiskMax user interface is ultra minimal and comes with no configuration options, I would advice you to spend some time going through the help file in order to understand what section of the hard disk are scanned and what kind of files are removed.
