Sometime back Google Chrome began providing additional information when the browser could not connect to a website. Aside for the typical Chrome message “Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to site.com”, Chrome would occasionally offer a helpful message such as “Other users are also experiencing difficulties connecting to this site, so you may have to wait a few minutes”, indicating the website server is really down.

Now Opera users can have this feature too, thanks to the Up For Everyone extension. The extension uses the website DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com to check the availability of a URL when Opera cannot connect to it, and displays a message on Opera’s standard “Network error” page. The Opera extension is, in fact, better than Chrome’s because Chrome does not always provide this information.

Those who are not aware, DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com is a website where you can check whether a URL is actually unavailable or is it just you who is having difficulty connecting the to said URL.

Anything for Firefox? Well, there is a DownForEveryoneOrJustMe addon for Firefox but it doesn’t function automatically like in Opera or Chrome. Basically, it just adds DownForEveryoneOrJustMe’s search to the browser where you have to enter the URL manually to check.
